Gojira Updates Rolling Stone on New Album

Gojira has dropped an eerie, galactic teaser for their new album, which is scheduled for release this summer.
The album has been in the works for over three years, but the band’s relocation from France to New York and the painful loss of Joe and Mario Duplantier’s mother last July delayed the process. The end result is a deeply emotional album that reminds the siblings of their late mom.
“The songs were half-written while she was sick,” Joe told RS. “After she died, I still had to finish them. So one song was like, ‘You’re going to make it,’ but the second verse is ‘You didn’t make it.'”
The excellent in-depth feature with Rolling Stonedives deep into that loss and the recording process, revealing several details about the forthcoming album, which features 10 tracks.
“We want a short album,” said Joe. “Something less epic than what we usually do. People’s attentions are shorter now. So a lot of the songs are four minutes.”
Working titles for songs include “Indiana,” “The Shooting Star” and “Silvera,” though the frontman states that these are just nicknames they’re using until the work is finished.
The yet-to-be-titled record has made fans eager for more following a taste of the new music in their latest clip, which shows the band jamming out in their brand new New York studio. Watch the trailer below.
